What Folkweb is

Folkweb is a free, open-source (GPL) browser extension that moves the web back to people. It isn't against AI; it's for people. You choose what you see.

Human signals: shows when a site declares it's made by people (human.json), the people it vouches for, its RSS feed and its AI policy. Curators, not algorithms: boost the human-made sites you trust in Google, DuckDuckGo and Bing, and block content farms, using lists you control. Declutter, your way: hides the AI panels and sponsored modules you didn't ask for, and tells you exactly what it hid and why, so you can bring it back. Content Credentials: right-click an image to see how it was made, read on your device. A calmer web: no autoplay, no animations, optional retro themes. Everything happens in your browser. Folkweb has no servers, no accounts and no analytics.

Why I'm asking

Folkweb is nearly ready for the Firefox, Edge and Chrome stores. Donations pay for:

the folkweb.org domain and the browser store fees; an independent security review, because an extension that runs on every page has to earn your trust; the time to keep the filters working as sites change, review list proposals and fix bugs. My promises

Free and complete for everyone. No ads, paid features, affiliate links or data sales, now or later. Donations are gifts. There are no perks, and donors get no say over the lists or the code. No site can pay to be boosted or unblocked. No nagging. The extension mentions support in one place only: a link at the bottom of its Settings. Every year I publish what came in and what it paid for at folkweb.org/support. Thank you for helping keep a corner of the web human.
