While the origins of Neurocracy go much farther back, Omnipedia itself began life around early 2017 and took about two years of labour to create the initial content and software for the demo/prototype shown in 2019. Between then and the 1.0 release in 2021, we had to expand the content substantially and implement some surprisingly complex systems to handle our unique use-case - such as the tooltip/pop-up content and revision history - while also completely rewriting Omnipedia from the ground up in the process.

Despite the glowing reviews and successful initial Kickstarter, Neurocracy has never been financially successful enough to live off of in an increasingly costly world. We have no intention to paywall Omnipedia in any way, but keeping it running as live software that requires hosting, maintenance, and upgrades is a non-trivial amount of work and money year-round.

What this will be used for

Matei Stanca is the sole web developer, UX designer, and devops engineer on the project; they've been unemployed since mid-2025. Funds will be used to pay their bills, housing, and food as a first priority, with any left over going towards technical improvements and maintenance of Omnipedia.
